remainders

to hazard a guess

with this distance between us

we see the same stars

and on starless nights

the rhythm of your heartbeat

keeps me close to you

and i tell myself

love’s uneven remainders

will take time to heal

sitting in fort greene park

9/13/18

i find myself at this park during the nighttime often. it’s as if i forgot what crickets sound like. a late summer evening sends my mind wandering.

the voices will fade

night breeze steals away the time

the end of summer

with one cricket chirp

green slowly fading to gold

reminds me im old

a dull spot in black

how i swirl around in it

longing for your spark
